Sesamoid Fracture

An apical sesamoid fracture is a fracture that involves the upper one-third of the bone. They are common among racehorses of different breeds and are thought to be due to a slow remodeling of the sesamoid bone in response to stress during training. Surgical removal is the treatment of choice.
